This fund was established to deal with crises that arise from time to time. It could be the breakdown of the washing machine or repairing a broken window or leaky faucet. Sometimes just a seemingly small issue like a malfunctioning appliance can grate on the widow's nerves and turn the house into chaos.
Every year before Pesach, Rebbetzin Rottenberg and her team call all her "sisters" with a checklist of common household repairs and/or the purchase or replacement of appliances needed to make Yom Tov. This way the widow does not have to worry how she is going to manage even if it is just a matter of bringing countertops or other kitchen equipment. The handyman will come and do whatever is necessary down to helping her kasher her kitchen for Pesach, a job usually done in the past by her late husband. Similarly, before Sukkos she gets in touch to arrange for a handyman to help with the building of the sukkah and any other necessary repairs.
