Zeh LaZeh was founded a decade ago when my dear friend was widowed when her husband passed away after a lengthy and debilitating illness. As an intimate friend, I witnessed first hand, not only her pain and suffering, but also her intense feelings of isolation.
Despite the many charity organizations that abound and the sincere desire to be of assistance, there is an invisible, almost impenetrable screen that keeps people at bay from helping widows and orphans. There seems to be tremendous trepidation and hesitation to reach out to bereaved people, so that, in addition to the immense hardships suffered by a person who has lost a loved one, the person must also contend with a strong feeling of abandonment and isolation.
Slowly, I was drawn into the campaign to penetrate this screen. What began as my own individual contribution, gathered momentum, culminating with the establishment of Zeh LaZeh, which has to its credit countless instances of assistance offered in the most difficult of situations to the bereaved.
Zeh LaZeh attempts to bring some happiness and light into the lives of those who have fallen into the depths of darkness and despair.
Our activities gradually escalated, to cover a broader and wider spectrum. Beginning with heart to heart talks with widows and their orphaned children, it continued with assistance and advice dispensed by expert psychologists, social workers, rehabilitators and general counselors, and culminated with concrete, tangible assistance extended in all forms; financial, physical and emotional support to families who were going through extremely tough times.
We had to provide household help, we had to offer psychological help, we had to get the children away, and we had to infuse the bereaved with as much joy as we possibly could. We began by organizing many different programs; trips, summer camps, evening performances, and tutorial assistance to those who needed it.
Were it not for other dear Yidden and faithful friends, we would not have succeeded in establishing this marvelous network, which runs like a perfectly synchronized orchestra whose musical symphonies don't fill concert halls, but shaken homes and broken hearts.
We see and hear so many heart-rending stories every day. Currently, we are actively involved in the lives of more than 1300 widow transcending all sectors of society, which translates into thousands of orphaned children being taken care of by Zeh LaZeh on one level or another.
To quote one of out widows who survived a terror attack:
"In one moment I became a widow, an orphan and a bereaved mother!"
Can we possibly fathom the extent of her pain?
Who can hear such a cry and be unmoved?
In the hope that I can find in you a listening ear and an open heart, I wish you to be blessed with all the abundant brachos mentioned in the Torah, from the vast treasure house in Heaven, and in the merit of your assistance for Hashem's beloved children, may you never know of any pain or distress, and may you meet only good fortune always and forever.
"Im Ata Mesameach Es Sheli Ani Mesameach Es Shelcho."
"If you bestow joy upon Mine, I shall bestow joy upon yours."
